Privacy Policy

RegretIt is funny on the front, serious about your data on the back.

PLAYRIOT LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the RegretIt mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

The short version: RegretIt works offline by default — your purchases stay on your device, except what you choose to send through the optional feedback form described below. Sign in is optional, only for backup. AI roasts and milestone images are generated on demand and not retained beyond the response. We don’t sell your spending data to advertisers, banks, or retailers.

1. About RegretIt

RegretIt is an entertainment-first purchase-tracking app. You log purchases you regret, the app generates a roast and tracks your running total, you can share shame cards to social, and milestone cards unlock as your Total Damage climbs. It is not a budgeting tool or a financial planner.

2. Information We Collect

Local data (default). Every purchase you log — item name, price, category, date, regret level, optional photo, and the AI-generated roast text — is stored locally on your device using SwiftData. Nothing is uploaded by default.

No account. RegretIt has no sign-up and no login. Your purchase log syncs across your own devices through your personal iCloud account (Apple’s CloudKit); we never see it.

Photo backup. Photos and videos you attach to an entry are backed up over TLS to our private storage so they survive a new phone. They are keyed by an anonymous identifier, never linked to your name or email, and the server copy is deleted when you delete the entry.

Feedback (optional). If you use the in-app “Help shape RegretIt” form, we receive what you write, your app version, device model, and OS version, plus your email only if you choose to leave one. In the Bug tab you can also attach one optional screenshot (up to 512 KB) from your photo library; only the single image you pick yourself is uploaded to our feedback service with that message, and RegretIt's feedback form never reads or sends any other photo.

AI roast generation. When you log a purchase, the item name and price are sent over TLS to our AI inference service to generate a personalized roast line. The text input is processed transiently and is not retained beyond the inference call. Only the resulting roast is saved with your purchase entry.

AI milestone images. When you hit a shame milestone ($1K, $5K, $50K, $1M), an AI-generated image is created showing what you could have bought instead. The prompt and image are processed transiently and not retained server-side.

Subscription state. Whether you have an active Pro entitlement, derived from Apple’s StoreKit. Apple handles the actual payment.

3. What We Don’t Collect

  • We don’t track you across other apps or websites.
  • We don’t use third-party analytics SDKs.
  • We don’t connect to your bank, credit card, Plaid, or any financial institution.
  • We don’t share your purchase history with retailers, advertisers, or financial-data brokers.
  • We don’t require sign-in. The app fully works without an account.
  • We don’t retain the item descriptions you submit for AI roast generation.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • Store your purchase log locally and (if signed in) sync it across your devices.
  • Send purchase descriptions to AI inference to generate roast lines and milestone images.
  • Calculate Total Damage, streaks, category breakdowns, and the “biggest regret” stats.
  • Render Stories share cards using your own data.
  • Verify your Pro subscription with Apple’s StoreKit.

5. Third-Party Services

AI inference providers. We use vetted AI services (currently Google Gemini, reached through our own proxy so no key or identity data leaves our infrastructure) for roast text and milestone images. AI features run only for Pro subscribers. Requests are sent over TLS with no personally identifying information attached. Providers operate under no-retention enterprise-tier agreements.

Cloud infrastructure. Photo backups are stored in Cloudflare R2 object storage, accessed through our application server in Germany (Frankfurt) on IONOS.

Apple StoreKit. Subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple.

6. Device Permissions

  • Camera — only when you tap to snap a receipt or item photo.
  • Photos — only if you choose to import an existing photo for a regret entry, except for the one screenshot you pick yourself through the optional feedback form described above.
  • Notifications — optional, for streak milestones and Daily Roast widget reminders.

All permissions revocable in iOS Settings. RegretIt requests no location, contacts, microphone, calendar, or health data.

7. Data Storage and Deletion

Local data lives on your device; entries sync through your own iCloud. Deleting an entry also deletes its backed-up photo from our storage. Settings → Delete all data wipes everything at once, including every server-side photo copy. Deleting the app removes all local data.

8. Data Sharing

We do not sell or rent your data. We do not share your purchase history, spending patterns, regret entries, or milestone progress with advertisers, retailers, banks, credit-card companies, debt-collection services, financial-data brokers, or any third party not listed in Section 5. Sharing happens only when you export a Stories card to your own social platforms, except what you choose to send through the optional feedback form described above.

9. Children’s Privacy

RegretIt is rated 12+ on the App Store due to mild humor and shareable content. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.

10. EEA, UK, and Switzerland

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the GDPR and equivalent laws: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and the right to object to processing. Because local-only mode holds no server data about you (except what you choose to send through the optional feedback form described above), exercising these rights is straightforward if you haven’t signed in. To make a formal request, email [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

11. Changes to This Policy

If this policy materially changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. For changes that affect what data we collect, we will prompt you in-app on next launch.
